Alleluias et adieux...

Given how late we were in the blog already, our aim was to publish the last post on its creation anniversary, namely December 4th. But you know.... (well yeah, re-adaptation isn't easy for all of us! :-) Anyway, better late than never after all!

Vu le retard accumulé, l'idée c'était de publier le dernier post à la date anniversaire de la création du blog, soit le 04 décembre. Mais voilà, vous savez ce que c'est... (bin oui c'est pas facile la ré-adaptation! :-) Bref, mieux vaut tard que jamais après tout!

Sun & the Em'Mobile... / Du soleil et la Em'Mobile...

So, where were we? Oh yes, the car. Well the AU$60 were well spent, as less than 24h later a man contacted me to see it (with a friend "who knows more about 4WD"): that's a lead! Plus, he seemed rather positively impressed! Which is lucky because I'd rather avoid having to change my flight, which leaves Australia on the 15/09 (that's exactly a week from now!). After a second viewing the next day, he tells me he's 80% sure he'll take it, but he still needs his wife to see it and agree. They live in Cooktown (200 km North from Cairns in a straight line, and last proper town in that direction), and they're looking for a good solid car which will allow them to go back and forth or explore the area without dreading kangaroos crossing, a frightening surprise they had twice recently. Meanwhile, I've had the car fixed, so when Carl (the bloke's name) arrives with his wife for the third viewing of the car, that's the one! Yee-ha! And phew, I can finally book a ticket from Cairns to Melbourne, whence my plane leaves in 4 days! Unfortunately I had to abandon my initial project of driving back up to Cooktown with Carl through the Daintree Forest (230km of dirt-road instead of 320km for the paved road that goes around the forest) for one last all terrain adventure with the Em'Mobile. It would've been too tight a timing. So after having packed and cleaned the car while I was in Kuranda, I thus bid farewell to our faithful vehicle on the 12/09. The odometer read 260,250 km, that's 28,000km within the past 7 months between our hands...

Où en étais-je? Ah oui, la voiture. Et bien les AU$60 furent bien employés, puisque que moins de 24h plus tard un homme m'a contacté pour la voir (en compagnie d'un ami "qui s'y connaît bien en 4x4"): ça mord! En plus il a été plutôt emballé! Heureusement parce que j'aimerais ne pas avoir à changer mon vol, qui quitte l'Australie le 15/09 (soit dans exactement une semaine!). Après un 2e rendez-vous le lendemain, il me dit qu'il est à 80% sûr de la prendre, mais il faut encore que sa femme voie l'engin et donne son accord. En fait ils habitent Cooktown (200 km à vol d'oiseau au nord de Cairns et dernière ville digne de ce nom dans cette direction), et ils veulent une voiture solide qui leur permette de faire les trajets ou d'explorer la région sans peur des kangourous qui traversent et leur ont fait 2 frayeurs récentes. Entre-temps j'ai fait faire les réparations, et quand Carl (c'est son nom) vient avec sa femme voir la voiture pour la 3e fois, c'est la bonne!! Youpi! Et ouf, je peux enfin réserver un billet de Cairns à Melbourne, d'où mon avion part dans 4 jours! Malheureusement il m'a fallu abandonner mon projet initial, qui était de remonter à Cooktown avec Carl par la Daintree Forest (230km de piste au lieu des 320km par la route qui contourne la forêt) pour une dernière aventure tout terrain avec la Em'Mobile, mais qui aurait été trop juste niveau timing. Par conséquent, après avoir tout bien rangé pendant mon week-end à Kuranda, j'ai donc dit adieu à notre fidèle engin le 12/09. Il avait 260 250 km au compteur, soit 28 000 km pendant les 7 mois en notre possession...

Last Meal in Melbourne / Dernier repas à Melbourne

I only spent 24h in Melbourne, barely enough to say goodbye to my cousins. But Myriam made it count: just as we had done on the very first evening we spent in Australia last January, she took me to a good old gig in a pub... And that was it, we'd come full circle! Our wonderful, beautiful Australian circle!!

Je n'ai passé que 24h à Melbourne, à peine assez pour dire au revoir aux cousins. Mais Myriam a fait ça bien: comme lors de notre tout premier soir en Australie en janvier dernier, elle m'a emmené voir un bon petit concert dans un pub... Et la boucle était bouclée! Notre belle, superbe boucle australienne!!
