Not even 24h after Emilie's arrival, we were in the vineyards picking grape!! Emeric had indeed got us a job lined up through our contact near Stirling, a delightful town only 20 km from Adelaide, where the scenery is just amazing. We thus met Kate and Hamish, who make wine although they don't use their own vines yet (many wine makers aren't the growers here, to our surprise). They offered us to stay on their wonderful property, giving us access to facilities in exchange of very little help.

Moins de 24h après l'arrivée d'Emilie, on était dans un vignoble à ramasser du raisin!! Emeric nous avait en effet trouvé un job grâce à notre contact près de Stirling, une ravissante bourgade à 20 km d'Adelaide, où les paysages sont magnifiques. Nous avons ainsi rencontré Kate et Hamish, qui font du vin bien qu'ils n'utilisent pas encore leurs propres vignes (de nombreux producteurs de vins achètent le raisin ici, à notre grande surprise). Ils nous ont offert de rester sur leur splendide propriété, nous donnant accès à divers conforts en échange d'une aide minime.

Our first week was tough!! Almost every evening we would 'taste' (sic) the delicious productions of Deviation Road (Kate & Hamish's winery!), joined in this at midweek by another Frenchman, Richard, an old friend of Kate's dating back to when she spent 3 years in France for her viticulture degree, who happened to be visiting at the same time. But of course in the mornings we had to get up really early to go picking, so the first hours each day were quite hard. Luckily, most of the crews we picked with were quite friendly, be they Sudanese (especially), Afghan, Burmese or Cambodian, making the time more fun. Still, we were happy to have Friday off, let alone because it was the last day before a cold front announcing the autumn. So on Thursday evening, we drove south to Port Willunga, where we spent the following day bathing and taking our time.

Notre première semaine fut difficile!! Presque chaque soir nous 'gouttions' (sic) les délicieuses productions de Deviation Road (le vignoble de Kate & Hamish!), joints en cela en milieu de semaine par un autre français, Richard, un vieil ami de Kate remontant à ses 3 années de lycée viticole en France, qui se trouvait être dans le coin à cette même période. Mais bien sûr le matin il fallait se lever vraiment tôt pour aller ramasser le raisin, du coup les premières heures de chaque journée étaient vraiment dures. Heureusement, la plupart des équipes avec qui nous avons ramassé étaient très amicales, qu'ils soient Soudanais (surtout), Afghans, Birmans, ou Cambodgiens, ce qui rendaient le temps plus sympa. Malgré tout, nous étions bien contents d'avoir notre vendredi, ne serait-ce que parce que c'était le dernier jour avant un front froid annonçant l'automne. Jeudi soir, nous sommes donc partis pour Port Willunga au sud, où nous avons passé la journée suivante à nous baigner et à nous la couler douce.
